The calculator solves the weighted average formula for the missing grade: needed = (target × total weight − sum so far) / weight of the exam.
The weight of the pending exam is decisive. An exam that counts double is more forgiving than a single-weighted one – the required grade comes out milder because the result is spread across more weight.

A bare number is not enough, because two edge cases would otherwise be misread. The calculator therefore distinguishes: target secured (even the worst grade keeps the average), achievable (the required grade falls between 1.0 and 6.0), only with a 1.0 and no longer achievable (even a 1.0 is not enough).
The distinction matters: with a large lead the formula produces a very high required value – 34, for instance. Checking that against 6.0 alone makes it look impossible, when in truth the target can no longer be missed.
