Period Calculator

Calculate your next period from cycle start and cycle length.

21 days45 days

Default: 5 days (2–10 days)

Please enter the first day of your last period.

Medical notice: This calculator provides an estimate based on a regular cycle and does not replace medical advice or diagnosis. Cycles can vary due to stress, illness, travel, or hormonal factors. If your cycle is irregular or you have health concerns, please consult your gynecologist.

How does period prediction work?

Cycle length, period duration and the formula behind it

The female cycle begins on the first day of the period and ends the day before the next period. The cycle length describes the number of days from one period start to the next. With a regular cycle, this reliably predicts the next period start: next period = last period + cycle length. For a 28-day cycle starting on January 1, the next period is therefore due on January 29.

The period duration (menstrual duration) indicates how many days the bleeding lasts – usually 3 to 7 days. Based on the period start and duration, our calculator determines the expected end of the next period as well as the period after next for better planning.

Important: this calculator is purely for cycle and period planning. It deliberately does not calculate fertile days or the ovulation date. If you want to calculate fertile days for family planning or other reasons, you can find this in our Ovulation Calculator.

Normal values for cycle and period

Reference values

Cycle length
21–35 days are considered normal, average about 28 days. Variations of a few days between cycles are common.
Period duration
3–7 days of bleeding are considered normal. Noticeably shorter or longer bleeding should be checked by a doctor.
Regular cycle
A prerequisite for a reliable calculated prediction. With a stable cycle, the deviation is usually small.
Irregular cycle
Stress, illness, travel, contraceptives, or menopause can change cycle length – making the prediction less accurate.

Frequently asked questions about the period calculator

Cycle planning, accuracy, and the difference from the ovulation calculator

The formula is simple: next period = last period + cycle length (in days). For a 28-day cycle starting on the 1st of a month, the next period is therefore due 28 days later. In addition, the entered period duration is used to calculate how long the bleeding is expected to last.

The period calculator deals exclusively with cycle and period planning: when the next menstruation begins and how long it lasts. It deliberately does not calculate fertile days or the ovulation date. For family planning or determining the fertile window, please use our separate ovulation calculator.

A normal menstrual cycle lasts between 21 and 35 days, on average about 28 days. The period (menstrual bleeding) itself usually lasts 3 to 7 days. Variations of a few days between individual cycles are normal and no cause for concern.

The calculator assumes a regular cycle with a constant length. For cycles that vary significantly (e.g. due to stress, illness, travel, hormonal contraception, or menopause), the actual period can deviate considerably from the calculated date. Tracking your cycle over several months with an app or a medical check-up provides more reliable values in case of irregularities.

No. The period calculator is intended exclusively for roughly planning the next period (e.g. for vacation, sports, or appointments) and is explicitly not a method of contraception. For reliable contraception, please talk to your gynecologist.
